The Historical Colour Range
Colours from the Applied Arts

Our Historical Colour range is based
on a work originally published in 1934 by a firm of paintmakers
called Thomas Parsons and Sons Ltd. |

It was called A Tint Book of Historical
Colours, and featured 136 colours in 'family' groups such
as:
Colours of Egypt, Pompeian Colours, Mortlake Tapestry Colours
and Wedgwood Colours. |

Their book was reprinted several
times until the early 1960's when they ceased trading. |

This work was extremely influential
in the days of limited paint colours, and formed the basis of
a number of the early commercial paint ranges. |

We have colour-matched 112 of the
colours (there were a number of near-duplications in the original
collection) and these are all available from stock. |

The colours are not claimed to represent
those that were in use by the house-painter in previous centuries.
They are merely indicative of colours used in the applied arts.
Our Traditional Colours
have been produced to show the sorts of colours in use for interior
decoration between 1650 and 1850. |

A hand-painted set of colour cards
is available for sale.
Each set consists of 14 cards each of 8 colours.

For many reasons, your monitor may not be showing
the paint colours accurately.
Please ensure that you obtain a set of colour cards, and preferably
a sample pot, before buying greater quantities of paint.
