About Papers and Paints
- Founded in 1960;
- Determinedly old-fashioned in outlook, but employing the latest
technology;
- Have made a reputation for supplying the widest range of paint
colours;
- Friendly and informed staff able to provide sound advice;
- Considerable experience in colour matching and specialist colour
work;
- Specialists in the use of paint and colour in historical buildings.
For the last twenty-five years, Patrick Baty has tried to build
on the reputation and skills of his father, Robert, who founded
the company in 1960. Whilst retaining the original concept
of the shop, he has developed the process of colour matching, and
has computerised the archive of specially matched colours that
he inherited.
The introduction of a spectrophotometer has enabled Papers and
Paints to become leaders in the field of domestic paint colour.
Following on from his earlier academic work, Patrick Baty has developed
a consultancy specialising in the
use of paint and colour in historical buildings - the focus being
largely on those of the period 1650-1850, although much work has
been carried out on those of more recent
date.
Papers and Paints have been employed by a number
of paint companies as consultants in the development of new colour
ranges. The Dulux Heritage range produced by ICI (Dulux)
and the recent "Colours of England 1700-1950" range in conjunction
with English Heritage and The Little Greene being two examples.
We have also produced colours for Ressource in France, who have a licence to use several of our paint ranges.
In 2007 we were honoured to be granted a Royal Warrant of Appointment
to Her Majesty The Queen.
